Is there anything more fun than a super sparkly red polish on your nails? Maybe having super sparkly red polish on your toes as well! China Glaze Ruby Pumps has been around for a long time and is part of the China Glaze core line up so you can go and pick it up any time you want to if you don't have this gem already. I have a bit of a weakness for the Wizard of Oz themed polishes because it is one of my favorite stories. My grade school BFF and I were maybe seven when my big sister took us to the movies to see a cartoon version and we had so much fun it has stayed with me to this day. After the movie we had ice cream and cake before walking home and it was the best day ever. It was also the first book my daughter and I read together and she loves it as much as I do. Today my daughter and I were walking into the grocery store and she asked me if we could go to the mall sometime and look for ruby slippers like Dorothy and I told her that was a great idea! Anyone know where I can find them? Bonus if they come in adult sizes! That conversation inspired me to pull out my bottle of Ruby Pumps. The formula has a good consistency but it's a bit on the sheer side because the red base is a jelly. Application is quick but it does take three coats for opacity. This allows the glitter to really penetrate through the layers giving you dazzling nails! Pictures do not do Ruby Pumps justice nomatter how many I took. I am wearing three layers of polish with top coat.

Just for giggles I decided to check out what Ruby Pumps looks like as a matte. I have never done this before with this polish but lately I have been having fun experimenting with the different finishes. Matte takes a bit more care than glossy to apply because it will show your brush strokes if you are not careful. I have also found that my polish seems to chip easier when matte. Glossy topcoat tends to camouflage mistakes, matte does the opposite and will accentuate any streaks or unevenness. Matte top coats also takes quite a bit longer to dry than glossy versions so you should be prepared for that. Is it worth it in the end? Absolutely! It changes the look of your mani and gives it a bit of an edge I find. It's not something I would do everyday but it is a really nice change of pace as long as you are prepared to take the extra time and maybe watch The Wizard of Oz while you wait for your nails to completely dry. No matter how you wear it Ruby Pumps is a classic and you do not need to be a nail polish fanatic like myself to appreciate it.
